It was a close contest.

“Upon the brow of Dewey Eddy has been placed the billiard championship crown of Glens Falls Elks,” The Post-Star reported on March 3, 1925. “Surrounded by 200 enthusiasts, Dewey Eddy emerged victorious over Stuart Holmes in a game which was so hard fought and closely contested that from the time the game started until Eddy made his final point it had every indication of being either man’s match.”

In other 1925 Glens Falls area news collected from historic newspapers of the region:

  • “What was undoubtedly the most exciting game played to date on the Junior High School Court was that of last evening when the Red and Black of the Glens Falls High School trampled over the league-leading Lansingburg High School five by a 17–15 score,” The Glens Falls Times reported on March 7.

The win brought Glens Falls to just one game out of first place.

  • The Glens Falls Academy basketball team defeated Silver Bay Academy 36–21 March 7 at the Glens Falls Y. M. C. A. court, the Times reported on March 9.

“The locals had things all their own way during most of the contest and won hands down.”

  • “The sale by Byrom Lapham of his interest in the grain business of Lapham and Parks to Herman M. Parks marks the passing of the business from the Lapham family, which has been associated with it for more than fifty years. Mr. Parks is the son of Herman B. Parks who has been a partner of Mr. Lapham since 1890,” The Post-Star reported on March 6.
  • The Glens Falls High School Senior Class elected Benjamin Bromley Jr. editor-in-chief of “The Red and Black,” the high school yearbook, The Glens Falls Times reported on March 7.
  • “Ninety persons attended the supper in the Friends’ church last evening. Through the courtesy of B. J. Baker, a musical program was heard by radio.”
  • “Constructed at a cost of approximately $5,000 (the equivalent of $90,141 in 2025 dollars), the new display windows and entrance and entrance to the G. Hoffman store, Glen Street, was completed yesterday,” The Post-Star reported on March 6. “George Alexander, contractor, has been at work several weeks on the job. It is considered as one of the most attractive store entrances north of New York.”
