The new operator of the Empire Theatre on South Glens Falls pledged to run only first-rate films and to reduce admission prices.

“The new lessees of the Empire Theatre have installed a scale of prices that will fit in the working man’s pocketbook.”

Admission would be 25 cents — the equivalent of $4.26 in 2025 dollars — for all seats at evening and Sunday shows, and 15 cents and 25 cents for afternoon matinees.

A major improvement in entertainment experience was planned.

“On the way to Glens Falls by express is a large Rosoff-Morgan Organ, of the same type that is now in use in many of the largest theatres of the country,” The Glens Falls Times reported on Feb. 28, 1925. “Thus, the patrons of the Empire can look forward to something extraordinary in the way of musical programs.”

Buckley Amusement Co., the company of C. H. Buckley of Albany, took over operation of the theatre on March 1.

Buckley also operated the Leland and Clinton Square theatres in Albany.

Oscar J. Perrin was the new on-site manager of The Empire.

The inaugural film under the news operators was “Janice Meredith” starring Marion Davis.

“She plays the role of the charming and spirited daughter of Squire Meredith, a staunch Tory. Her love for Jack Brereton, a young officer in Washington’s Army who wins her over for the cause of the American Colonies and carries her through many thrilling adventures during the turbulent days of the Revolution.”

William Randolph Hearst produced the Revolutionary War romance film which was based on a novel by Paul Leicester Ford, according to the Internet Movie Data Base.

The film is known for its grandiose scenes of Washington crossing the Delaware.

On March 7, Buckley announced he would spend between $15,000 and $20,000 on theater improvements over the next year, including a new entrance and marquee.

“The reception given our first picture has been all that could be desired,” he said.

Installation of the new organ had been begun.
