1925 Glens Falls area— Tough times for pro basketball
High school basketball was increasing its fan base a century ago, but there was a finite amount of admission dollars to go around.
Manager Alfred Delsignore announced that the Fort Edward professional basketball team had suspended operations, due to an increase in rent at Harris Hall, The Post-Star reported on Jan. 14, 1925.
The rent increased at a time when high school basketball was siphoning off fans from the professional team.
The Post-Star suggested that increased admission fees at high school games would make the scholastic sport sustainable for years to come.
Meanwhile, a Glens Falls High School standout athlete was gaining notice at the college level.
“Harold Stewart, captain last year of the local High School varsity, last week played his first full game as a regular forward on the Clarkson Tech varsity. He is reported to have played extraordinarily good basketball,” The Post-Star reported on Jan. 16.
