1925 Putnam — On the travel corridor

Putnam would become part of a north-south travel corridor.

“The third link in the Putnam-Dresden-Whitehall Road as part of the Montreal-New York trunk line will be started as soon as the snow leaves the ground sufficiently for state engineers to make their survey,” The Glens Falls Times reported on Feb. 7, 1925. “The prospects of completing the Washington County end of the Montreal-New York trunk, that part lying in Washington County running from Hudson Falls through Fort Ann to Dresden, Putnam and connecting with Essex County at Ticonderoga, seems to be at least two years off.”

  • U. S. Supreme Court Justice Harlan Stone was vacationing at Glenburnie, The Lake George Mirror reported on July 11.
  • “Paul Easton has purchased a sawmill and is cutting off the timber on his home place,” the Putnam correspondent reported in the Ticonderoga Sentinel on Feb. 19.
  • “Mr. Hanson of Fair Haven is installing a new switchboard for the Putnam Telephone Company,” the Putnam correspondent reported on March 12.
  • “William E. Walton, whose summer home is at Glenburnie, will give the $6.00 (the equivalent of $108 in 2025 dollars) for the arithmetic prizes. $1 goes to the child in each grade above the second grade who has shown greatest improvement during the year in arithmetic work,” the Putnam correspondent report on March 26.
  • “The Delaware and Hudson Company has been given permission by the Public Service Commission to discontinue an agent at Wright’s Station in Putnam, Washington County, from June 15 to September 15,” The Glens Falls Times reported on April 17.
  • “The Adirondack Camp for Boys at Glenburnie is opening its season, the first group of campers having been scheduled to arrive Wednesday,” The Lake George Mirror reported on July 5. “Mrs. E. G. Brown, in her headquarters ‘The Eagle’s Nest’ is planning a busy season for the camp.”
  • “Albert Cook of Ticonderoga, with a gang of men, is building a number of large new bungalows at Camp Rohah,” the Gull Bay correspondent reported in the Ticonderoga Sentinel on May 28.
  • “Clayton G. Coates has had their hotel, Gull Bay Inn, painted recently,” the Gull Bay correspondent reported.
  • “Earl Dedrick has purchased a new towing car,” the Putnam correspondent reported in the Sentinel on March 5.
  • “Warren Putnam has purchased a new Oldsmobile,” the Putnam correspondent reported on April 16.
