1925 Schroon Lake — Only one log drive

It would be the only log drive on the river that season.

“Superintendent Floyd Rhodes of A. C. Emerson and Company went up the Schroon River on Saturday with a gang of men and measured the Hemlock logs which will be driven downstream the latter part of this week,” the Schroon Lake correspondent reported in The Post-Star of Glens Falls on April 13, 1925.

  • “Manager Roy Diller and Mrs. Diller are now at Fraternaland on Paradox Lake and are rapidly getting things in shape for the second season of this unique and successful colony devoted exclusively for use of the Odd Fellows and Masonic members,” the Ticonderoga Sentinel reported on May 28. “Several guests were entertained over the weekend and a a larger number have engaged accommodations for the coming weeks.”

The cottage colony had facilities for meals and dances.

  • “We are glad to say that all of children of the Lockwood District passed their examinations,” the North Schroon correspondent reported in the Ticonderoga Sentinel on Jan. 29.
  • “There was a good attendance at the dance at the Strand Wednesday night. The $2.50 gold piece was won by Grace Boyle,” the Sentinel reported on Feb. 5.
  • “Miss Ada Palmer has gone to Schroon Lake where she will assume the duties of housekeeper at the Brown Swan Club. This is Miss Palmer’s fourth season at the summer resort,” The Post-Star reported on April 24.
  • “The Brown Swan Club of Schroon Lake was opened Friday for the season,” the Ticonderoga Sentinel reported on May 7.
  • Herbert Bruno of Schroon Lake bought a Special Six Studebacker from Pereao’s Garage at North Creek, the North Creek Enterprise reported on May 7.
