Century-old Minerva — Worst blizzard of the season

The lion of March was still roaring in April.
“The worst blizzard of the season came Sunday. Sixteen inches of snow fell here,” the Olmstedville correspondent reported in The Glens Falls Times on April 14, 1925.

- “On Thursday afternoon of last week, a debate was given by the sophomore English class of Olmstedville High School. The question was: Resolved, that Von Hindenburg should be elected president of Germany. The affirmative side was upheld by Teresa Ryan, Dorothy Church, and William Barnes. The opponents were James Wilson, Eloise Cronin, and Edward Kelly,” the Ticonderoga Sentinel reported on May 14. “The judges, who were members of the senior and freshman classes, gave the decision in favor of the negative by a vote of 8 to 5.”
- “The Misses Grace and Nora Phelps of Blue Ridge are employed at the hotel,” the Olmstedville correspondent reported in The Glens Falls Times on May 1.
- “The Olmstedville (Junior) Achievement Club held their weekly meeting Saturday, April 4. All the members of the club were present. Miss Amber Herron served sandwiches for lunch. Frances Lynn was the guest,” the North Creek Enterprise reported on April 9.( “Wm. J. Raymond of Minerva has purchased a new Standard six Studebaker of Pereau Garage,” the North Creek Enterprise reported on April 2.
- “Walter Oconner and Richard Oneil have a number of trees tapped and reports are running good this season,” the Irishtown correspondent reported in the Enterprise.
- “Horses, tractors and wheelbarrows are very busy filling washouts since the big rain,” the Irishtown correspondent reported in the Enterprise.
- “Oren Kellogg of Minerva has purchased a news Ford Coupe from Bissell’s Garage,” the Enterprise reported on April 23.
- “Harrison Dimmick has added 500 more chicks to his flock. He intends to furnish broilers for the summer trade,” the Minerva correspondent reported in the Enterprise on April 30.
- “The dance given Friday evening in Murphy’s Hall, Minerva, by the senior class of the Olmstedville High School was a most enjoyable affair,” The Glens Falls Times reported on May 26. “A very large crowd attended. Music was furnished by La Pell’s six-piece orchestra. Lunch was served. The hall was prettily trimmed with the class colors, purple and gold.”
- Henry Murphy of Minerva bought a Ford coupe at Pereau’s Garage in North Creek, the North Creek Enterprise reported on May 7. Sharlotte Harvey of Minerva bought Ford touring car.
