Combined families — Poetry and music

This is the latest in an occasional series of posts about the daughters of Samuel Pruyn and their families that lived in the three houses that now are the campus of The Hyde Collection art museum in Glens Falls.

On May 5, 1922, Charlotte Hyde hosted at Hyde House a Glens Falls Study Club afternoon talk on contemporary poetry by Professor William Lyons Phelps.

“Mr. Phelps is a professor of English literature at Yale University and one of the foremost literary critics of the day. The affair will be the literary event of the season,” The Post-Star reported the previous day.

Seating was limited to 40 people.

On March 11, 1946, The Post-Star reported that the deBlasiis concert season would open March 13 at Hoopes House, the home of Maurice and Mary Hoopes, with Giovania deBlasiis on piano, Virginia deBlasiis on violin, and Katherine Morehouse on cello.

The trio would perform Beethoven’s Opus 1 №1 in four movements and Brahms’ Opus 8 in four movements.

On March 8, 1946, The Post-Star reported that the executive committee of the Glens Falls Community Concerts Association met at the home of Charlotte Hyde.
