Locating in the “low rent district” enabled him to sell merchandise at lower prices, this new downtown retailer boasted, in a Post-Star advertisement.

Thaler’s clothing store, at 26 Ridge St., “The Store of Real Values,” was holding a grand opening sale the next day, the retailer advertised on May 25, 1923.

“A very useful souvenir will be given to all our customers during our opening sale.”

The clothing store was located next door to the Mohican Market.

  • The “Hippity Hop Revue,” a musical comedy show, was booked for a week at Empire Theatre on South Street.

“This is one of the largest musical comedy tabloid companies here this season and has every element of to make it one of the biggest hits.” — May 28

  • “Patrick D. Mannix and Oscar Lawrence, proprietors of the Glens Falls Tire and Rubber Company, 12 ½ Park Street, have purchased the building at 26 Park Street from the Glens Falls Trust Company. The property will afford them an opportunity to materially increase their lines of merchandise.” — May 29
  • “Through the courtesy of Charles Greenstone of the Empire Theatre, the Boy Scouts are to have a theater party Friday evening. The (Boy Scout) band and all scouts having uniforms are asked to meet at City Hall at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Wear your uniform — it is your admission to the theatre.” — May 29
  • The I. Silverman men’s and boy’s clothing and shoes store was moving from 81 Glen St. to 85 Glen St.

“Mr. Silverman, in his new location, will have increased floor space and better facilities to take care of his increasing patronage.” — June 1

  • Mrs. William Waite resigned as president of the Tuesday Art Club, after heading the organization for 27 years.

Mrs. Joseph Garrison was elected the new president. — June 6.

  • “Johnny Wather is solidifying his position as one of the foremost stars of the screen. His latest and most imposing vehicle, ‘Captain Fly-by-Might,’ exhibited for the first time yesterday at the Empire Theatre, lift the brilliant boy into the forefront of screen stars.” — June 13
  • Joseph Yaffee relocated his Army and Navy Store from Park Street to a more prominent location at 81 Glen St. — June 9
