Glens Falls in 1909 — Crandall Park clam bake
A Sept. 18, 1909 Post-Star editorial urged area residents to attend the upcoming Glens Falls Women’s Club clam bake at Crandall Park on Sept. 22 to raise funds for the Warren County visiting nurse’s program.
“Fun will run rampant, and there will be an abundance of things eatable, the much coveted clam being agreed to sacrifice his life in honor of the occasion.”
The event had been moved from Harris’ Grove to accommodate a larger crowd.
Tickets were $1.50 — the equivalent of $42.40 in 2020 dollars.
“The women of the club are doing all in their power to make a success of the occasion. It remains for the public to do as much, and Crandall Park will be the scene of one of the greatest and most enjoyable gatherings of all times.”
In other Crandall Park historical news, The Post-Star reported on Nov. 25, 1911 that the Crandall Boy’s Savings Club was scheduled to meet that evening at 7.
“At this time a communication from Henry Crandall will be read and plans will be discussed for the proposed skating rink at Crandall Park.”
