Glens Falls in 1919 — Football team scores scores 16 touchdowns
The Post-Star headline on Oct. 16, 1919 was an understatement: “Local High School Football Team Rolls Up Overwhelming Score.”
Glens Falls, the day before, defeated Fort Edward 102–0 in a lopsided high school football game at Recreation Field at Crandall Park.
“Fort Edward was outweighed and outplayed. Only twice did the visiting team make first downs,” The Post-Star reported. “On the other hand Glens Falls was not once held for downs.”
Glens Falls scored 16 touch downs, four extra points and one safety.
Fullback Roy Akins, who later was Glens Falls fire chief, scored six touch downs, including a 60-yard punt return run.
