Glens Falls in 1963 — Rosoff and Akins
Robert Rosoff, former long-time business manager of the Glens Falls Symphony, and Neil Akins, who operates a local theater company, had early experience in arts management.
The “two senior boys with an impressive record in dramatic activity” were co-business managers of the upcoming annual Glens Falls High School Dramatics Club Drama Night production, The Post-Star reported on Jan. 29, 1963.
Akins had played Daniel Webster in the club’s production of “The Devil and Daniel Webster,” and Macbeth in a production of The Globe Theatre version of “Macbeth.”
He was president of the Junior-Senior Drama Club, and student supervisor of the Radio Club.
Rosoff had played the role of the courting fiddler in “The Devil and Daniel Webster,” and the porter in “Macbeth.”
In his sophomore year, Rosoff had the lead role in “Perchance to Promise.”
He was a member of the Radio Club.
Pete Cloutier and Mark Griffin, up-and-coming local radio personalities, worked backstage for the Feb. 2 variety program of skits and music.
Post-Star staff writer Florence McIlvaine gave the show a favorable review.
“Two hours of expertly paced entertainment were presented by the dramatics club and musical groups of Glens Falls High School Saturday night in the school auditorium for a large audience attending the annual Drama Night,” she reported on Feb. 4. “The program was a showcase for varied, and, in some cases, remarkable talent.”
