This is the latest in an occasional series of posts leading up to the 125th anniversary of the founding in December 1896 of the local Knights of Columbus and the start of construction in 1922 of the former Glens Falls Knights of Columbus hall at the corner of Warren and Center streets. The building is now the offices of the FitzGerald Morris Baker Firth law firm and Adirondack Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Knights and Eagles — It sounds like a plot form a medieval fairy tale.

In fact, it was two local fraternal organization collaborating to make more than 600 Glens Falls area children happy at Christmas.

Santa Claus (Ken Morrissey), Zobo the Clown (Donald Plude) and Glens Falls Mayor Robert Cronin were among the celebrities that attended the Glens Falls Aerie 2486 Fraternal Order of Eagles and Ladies Auxiliary annual children’s Christmas party Dec. 13, 1970 at the Glens Falls Knights of Columbus Hall.

Glens Falls Councilman Thomas Marzola and Thomas Wade also attended.

Entertainment included cartoons and a dance performance by students of Patricia Miller Jones School of Dance.

Child entertainer Michael Williams sang and danced in an impersonation of Tom Jones.

Raymond LaFarr led in group singing.

Ray Jones was master of ceremonies.

Glens Falls Fire Department members George Jacobs, Stanley Steves and Richard Leonbruno volunteered to assist with the party.
