McEchron mentions — Hospitality to all

This is the first in an occasional series of posts based on historical newspaper reports about the family of William McEchron of Glens Falls.

Politicians and scholars alike enjoyed the hospitality of the McEchron family in 1884.

William McEchron on the evening of Oct. 7 entertained the Fort Edward Blaine and Logan (Republican presidential campaign) Drill Team when the group visited Glens Falls,” The Morning Star reported on Oct. 9.

“A sumptuous repast was served at Mr. McEchron’s and everything possible was done to contribute toward the comfort and enjoyment of the guests.”

On April 1, Maggie McEchron, daughter of William and Sarah, hosted a meeting of The Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle at the McEchron family home.

“A song by Mrs. F.H. Bullard and instrumental music by Miss McEchron enlivened the usual exercises. There was a good attendance and a good deal of study was evidenced by many of the participants,” The Morning Star reported the next morning.

William McEchron was elected vice-president of the Glens Falls driving park, The Morning Star reported on Feb. 8.

William McEchron, having just returned from a trip to The Morgan Lumber Co.’s timber property, reported there was still plenty of snow and “excellent sleighing” in the North Woods, The Morning Star reported on April 4.

The Queensbury Republican Committee elected William McEchron a delegate to the Warren County Republican Convention, The Morning Star reported on Sept. 29.
