Queensbury brides more often married grooms from out of town in 1883, and brides tended to be younger than grooms.

There were 78 weddings in Queensbury, which included the village of Glens Falls, in 1883, of which about 18 percent were men getting remarried after the death of a spouse, The Morning Star reported on Jan. 12, 1884.

“One of the grooms who had seen 70 summers cast the matrimonial lasso for the fourth time and captured a blushing bride who was five years his junior.”

Fifty-six of the brides and 34 of the grooms were Queensbury residents.

The age of brides ranged from 16 to 75.

Twenty-eight brides were under the age of 20, including two age 16 and three age 17.

The age of grooms ranged from 20 to 70.

Fourteen widowers and 10 widows were among those getting married.

Methodist Episcopal and Baptist clergy, with 19 ceremonies each, led the local pack at officiating.

Presbyterian clergy officiated at 13 weddings, French Catholic 12, Society of Friends six, and Episcopal five.

Three couples were married by justices of the peace.
