This is the latest in an occasional series of posts leading up to the 75th anniversary of Glens Falls radio station WWSC on Dec. 18, 2021.

The Commodore restaurant on Warren Street was advertised as “Glens Falls’ Outstanding Eating Place of the North.”

The Hamilton Sisters musical act from Boston was the house band appearing at The Commodore for the 1948 season.

The duo, featuring sisters Sue and Ruth on accordion, piano and vocals, could also be heard at 9:45 Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday nights on WWSC 1450, sponsored by The Commodore.

Other regular programs in 1948 included “Speaking of Sports” daily from 6:15 to 6:30 p.m., sponsored by C.V. Peters; “Smilin’ Ed McConnell and the Buster Brown Shoe Hour” at 12:45 p.m. Saturdays, sponsored by Van the Shoe Man; “The Bulletin Board” at 10:30 a.m. weekdays, sponsored by Economy Store; “Marsha Fowler — Personal Shopper” at 12:30 p.m. weekdays, sponsored by Fowler’s Department Store.
